Known as "Devil's Race Ground" by the original settlers to Stony Valley, Devil's Race Course is an expansive boulder field north of Rattling Run. The headwaters of Rattling Run "rattle" through the boulders, creating noises that the area's first settlers believed was the devil running through the depths of hell.
Movie was a waste of time, low budget flic with nudity, poor acting, horrible dialog, foul language and reference to homosexuality. The movie is called the Devil's Racecourse but I have no idea why, there was no race just four girls and 1 guy hiking in the woods that run into a serial killer with two other guys.
From High Rock, the trail follows the ridge, passing the highest point on the Maryland AT, and then going gently downhill towards Raven Rock. We took a short side-trip to Devil's Racecourse, about half a mile off of the AT. On the way there, we passed Devil's Racecourse Shelter, which might be one of the saddest shelters I've seen.
